Hosted by the National Library Board (NLB), Read!Fest is an annual island-wide festival connecting people through books, shared experiences, and ideas. Under the theme of “Flourish”, we helmed the spatial design of its 2023 edition, creating a space that would encapsulate that festival’s identity as an area for unexpected encounters, exploration, and growth.
To inspire this growth within visitors, we made the event feel inviting to visitors, before gently encouraging them to interact with the space. Throughout the event, audiences are challenged to embrace the idea of flourishing in different ways, whether it be through self-reflection, strengthening relationships with loved ones, or giving back to society.
As Read!Fest flowered in several locations across Singapore, its design was crafted to take root in various regional libraries, each one retaining its potential for immersive and engaging interactions.

Throughout the space, visitors picked up themed collaterals that they could collate in a scrapbook.

Connected by sweeping arc motifs, we crafted a space surrounded by several “sprouting” stations. Flowing shapes guide the eyes and footsteps of visitors across the stations, where they engage in personalised encounters.
As the event progressed, the space bloomed as visitors decorated its walls and structures with stickers they collected throughout its various stations. This visual transformation represented a blossoming of self-discovery, both within Read!Fest, as well as in the hearts of its participants.
