Read!Fest is NLB’s annual island-wide festival that brings people together through books, ideas and shared experiences, encouraging curiosity and lifelong learning.

For its 2023 edition, themed “Flourish,” PLUS created the festival’s visual identity to encourage visitors to reflect on personal and collective growth. The design aimed to make the festival more welcoming and relatable, inspiring visitors to explore how individuals and communities can grow together.

Inspired by NLB’s curated book selection, the festival’s design centred on personal growth, relationships and community. These were the key themes behind the event’s “Flourish” concept.

PLUS translated these ideas into layered visual motifs that represented different ways of growing and flourishing. These motifs were applied across the event’s branding, posters and displays to create a cohesive and recognisable visual identity.

To bring the experience to life, visitors were invited to collect materials from interactive stations and assemble them into personalised scrapbooks. This hands-on process encouraged reflection and created a deeper connection to the festival’s theme.

Self

Motif representing the self. The original point of growth.

Relationship

Motif representing relationship with others, where growth is manifested through bonding with others.

Society

Motif representing flourishing within a society, where relationships thrive collectively.

Over three vibrant weeks, Read!Fest welcomed visitors from all walks of life, who learned and experienced the idea of flourishing in many ways. Through workshops, quizzes and interaction stations, they explored different aspects of personal growth, leaving with new ideas and fresh perspectives.

As the festival bloomed, the space itself transformed, gradually filling with colourful stickers and keepsakes collected from every station. This visual transformation turned the venue into a garden of shared experiences.

PLUS’s participatory approach planted the seeds for meaningful connections. By encouraging visitors to collect, personalise and reflect, the festival gave each person a chance to take home something that felt truly personal and lasting.
